Moving the flock back to Toronto
It won’t be long now before the water bowls freeze over, so I decided to rent a cube van and move the chickens, the coop, the whole kit and caboodle back to Toronto. The move went smoothly, other than the fact that the hens didn’t want to leave. Once back in Toronto, they happily snacked away on the tender grass in the backyard. There is now much less worry about predators, other than racoons at night, when the girls will be safely locked away.
BTW, this is what hens look like when they are in moult. They lose their feathers and it looks like they weigh nothing at all. During this time they don’t lay eggs. Rather they put their energy into re-growing their feathers and preparing for the winter.
